The following positions will be up for election in 2020: President, President-Elect, Secretary, and Communications Director. Below you will find descriptions of each of the roles up for election. Please email us at secretary@kwla.org by September 10, 2020 if interested in serving. All interested candidates must submit their name prior to the conference!
President (Serves 2 year term)
- Act as spokesperson (PR)
- Represent (state, regional, national event)
- KWLA Conference, SCOLT Delegates Assembly, ACTFL Delegates Assembly)
- Lead the board in the implementation of mission statement and vision of KWLA
- Helps coordinate the winter retreat
- Act as Advocacy Chair
- Foster leadership within the membership
- Participate as Member of Finance Committee
- Act as 3rd Chair of Conference Committee
- Contact with Conference Site
- Lead Committee to approve session proposals
- Work with President-Elect to get registration online
- Run elections for new officers in each election year
President-Elect (Elected for 2 year term)
- Act as Chair of Conference Committee
- Identify and organize schedule for Conference
- Create Conference Program
- Work with President to get registration online
- Fulfill duties of President, if President is unable to do so
Past President (Serves 2 year term)
- Act as 2nd Chair of Conference Committee
- Secure and arrange keynote speakers/featured presenters
- Work with Social Media Liaison to advertise Conference
- Work with Awards Chair
- Organize and help deliver Winter Workshops
- Create and send a quarterly newsletter
- Act as Membership Chair
- Coordinate database on aMember
Treasurer (elected to serve 2 years, renewal at discretion of board)
- Act as Chair of Finance Committee
- Make a financial report at each board meeting
- Maintain accurate and transparent financial records
- File an Annual Report with the state
- File an Annual report with the IRS
- Work with President to keep KWLA status current
- Post Annual report on the KWLA website
Secretary (Elected for 2 year term)
- Take minutes at all board meetings
- Post constituent-friendly minutes (Agenda w/ actions taken)
- Share minutes with board
- Work with President and Communication Director to publicize items on social media
Regional Representatives (elected every two years) Ex-Officio (non-voting)
- Extend communication from Regional Liaison to their constituency
- Work closely with Regional Liaison to identify location and times for Winter Workshops, regional Showcases (content is provided by KWLA)
- Assist at the Conference as needed
- Maintain and update the list of WL teachers in their regions
- Serve as a liaison between their constituents and KWLA Board Regional Liaison
- Communicate regularly with Regional Liaison to highlight programs, teachers etc. in their regions.
